Ride On The Blue Lagoon

Vaporetto ride on the blue lagoon between the Venetian islands of Murano and Burano, Venice, Italy.

Face it, I’m a sucker when it comes to the color blue at the early part of the day, and the end of the day, especially around water. It can add such atmosphere to an image.

In 2000 I took a much anticipated trip to Venice Italy during the last week of November and the first week of December. I was looking for some quite time in that city. One thing that I wanted to absorb while there was the atmosphere of the place.

For that trip I had purchased a small Contax G2 camera with several lenses. It’s a small discrete camera that uses film. Remember that stuff? I still often carry it to this day.

While there I had taken the Vaporetto from F.Te Nove to Burano stopping along the way at Murano. This image was taken at the very end of that day on the ride between Murano and Burano.  I was fascinated by the blue light on the lagoon at that time of day, and equally so by the expression of one of men who was looking out on to the water on his way home from work at one of the glass blowing factories on Murano.

Lucky for me, one of the men as we docked in Burano explained to me that this vaporetto was also the last ride out, and it would also be the last ride back that evening. Should I have missed the boat on its return to Venice, I would have had to spend the evening with no prior arrangements as to some where to stay that evening. Now that would have not been so bad eh?

This post is a tease for a gallery from that trip which will appear here in the near future. Stay tuned!
