Carp Fishing

fishing for carp oradell reservoir oradell nj at sunset

Several years ago I photographed a project for Bergen SWAN, on how people use our watersheds.  One of my favorite places to look for images was on the eastern shore of the Oradell Reservoir in Haworth, NJ in the later part of the day, as I’ve always thought that the sunsets were spectacular when viewed from there.

One thing that I noticed was that a considerable number of Korean fishermen would also show up there in the early evening to fish for carp.  I came across this gentleman fishing for carp one evening at sunset.   I also noticed  that the traditional fishing poles that they use for this kind of fishing are some of the most beautiful, and graceful things that I’ve ever seen.

To this day, I’m left wondering if the attraction there were the rather large carp that they fished for, or was it those wonderful sunsets reflected in the reservoir?
